Took in the work vehicle for an oil change at the dealership, and also because the drive belt squeals at highway speeds, and the drums and making noise when braking, every time, EVERY time, until you come to a complete stop. Tech said he was unable to replicate either noise...

Considering the drum brakes on this completely locked up on me last time (7k miles ago), I’m not ignoring any noise coming from those. And a squealing belt after 60-something thousand miles means it could be a little worn, or some pully needs to be tightened, or something? Either way I don’t want to listen to high-pitched noises or have it snap on me whilst on I-5 someday.

I have to say... My experiences with this truck have been quite surprising. Then again, it may just be an issue of volume use bias. I’ve driven this 68k miles in 2 years, while probably driving my other vehicles in the meantime 20k miles combined over that time.

I guess the problem is, when you drive a new vehicle, your tolerance for any issues is quite low. But if you drive, say, a 1980 Longbed, you’re just ecstatic it starts.

Nailed it.

You would be surprised how often customers existence a problem EVERY TIME, until the tech drives it. I even go on road tests with customers frequently for this exact reason, but most of the time it doesn’t make a difference. Frustrates the hell out of them, but at least we tried. It’s like cars get fixed via osmosis just by driving into a shop.

Yeah I have to accept that I’m potentially nuts. My service manager was really great. She even rode in it herself after the tech insisted he couldn’t find anything. Seems absurd, but having an assigned service person thingie when I go in is kind of nice.

(By the way, the brakes squeaked on the way home after a few minutes -_-)

Oh I believe it, and I’m not trying to say you or any customer is nuts. Cars really do seem to fix themselves while at shops all the time.

For example. We had an AMG come in for an engine noise and the customer said it sounded like a roof was going to come flying out if the block and it would sometimes run like crap. Scammed it, drove it multiple times, couldn’t find anything at all wrong with it. Sent him on his way. He comes back not ten minutes later says it made the noise two blocks from the shop and the CEL came on. I spent hours driving it after that to verify the noise, and he was right. It ended up just being a stuck oil control solenoid, nothing damaged (really weird situation, would take a ton of explaining and some serious technical knowledge of modern AMG engines). But the point is cars are dumb and like to make us feel dumb too.
